Understanding the Language of Homeopathy A Beginner’s Guide

If you’re new to homeopathy, one of the first things you may notice is that the terminology sounds… different.

That’s because it is different.

Homeopathy operates from a completely unique framework compared to conventional medicine, and with that comes its own language—words that reflect a more energetic, individualized approach to healing. Understanding these terms can help you feel more confident, informed, and connected to your care.

Let’s walk through some of the foundational terms you’ll encounter.

Remedies (Not “Medications”)

In homeopathy, we don’t refer to substances as drugs or medications. Instead, we call them remedies.

A remedy is carefully prepared from natural sources—plants, minerals, or other substances—and is designed to support the body’s natural ability to return to balance. Rather than simply suppressing symptoms, remedies work to address the individual as a whole.

Pellets (Instead of Pills or Capsules)

Instead of tablets or capsules, homeopathic remedies are often delivered as small pellets.

These pellets are typically made from a base of sucrose or lactose (milk sugar). In traditional homeopathic pharmacies, the prepared remedy is commonly sprayed onto the outside of the pellet.

In my practice, I take a slightly different approach. I begin with a sucrose-based pellet as the foundation and use a specialized frequency machine to imprint the homeopathic medicine frequency onto the pellets. The client still gets the same homeopathic medicine as if the homeopathic pharmacy prepared it, only it is an identical energy pattern to the original substance, thus producing the same results.  It is like harvesting the raw materials for the medicine myself and compounding them into medicine, which would be very time consuming and a rather tedious process.

How Remedies Are Taken

Homeopathic remedies are simply taken by mouth

Because of how receptive the body is, especially through the tissues in the mouth, remedies are highly absorbed and begin interacting with the system very quickly. This removes the barrier of having to bypass the compromised condition of a person’s gut which ultimately limits the absorption of any supplement or medication taken.  Therefor you get the exact therapeutic dose each time you take your remedy.

There are also alternative delivery methods depending on the situation which makes it a great option for infants, elderly, pets, and small children.

HRx: The Homeopathic Prescription

In conventional medicine, you’re given an “Rx.”

In my practice, your homeopathic prescription is called an HRx.

This represents a personalized plan created specifically for you—not just based on a diagnosis, but on your full picture: physical symptoms, emotional patterns, and overall vitality.

Potency: Understanding Strength in Homeopathy

The term potency refers to the strength of a homeopathic remedy—but not in the conventional sense.

In homeopathy, potency reflects how a substance has been prepared through dilution and energetic activation. Different potencies are selected based on what best matches the individual and the level at which support is needed—physical, emotional, or deeper energetic balance.

Constitutional Remedy: Your Foundational Balance

One of the most meaningful concepts in homeopathy is the constitutional remedy.

This is the remedy chosen to match you as a whole person—your physical traits, emotional tendencies, stress responses, and overall essence.

A constitutional remedy is believed to carry a vibrational frequency that resonates deeply with your system. When the match is correct, it can help bring you back into balance in a profound and lasting way—supporting not just symptom relief, but a greater sense of well-being and alignment in life.

A Different Way of Thinking About Health

Homeopathy invites us to look at health differently.

Rather than focusing solely on symptoms or diagnoses, it considers the entire person—body, mind, and energy. The language reflects that philosophy: gentle, individualized, and centered on restoring balance.

This is just the beginning. As you continue exploring homeopathy, you’ll discover even more terms and concepts that deepen your understanding of how this system works.

And the more you understand the language…
the more empowered you become in your healing journey.

Bye for now,

Rebecca
